Aristocrats Organization — Don’t Go
The Aristocrats Organization’s “Don’t Go,” a relatively recent discovery in the deep funk circle, has confounded researchers since the first – and only – copy of the record turned up in an auction list in the late 90s. Every wet-behind-the-ears funk junkie want lists this gorgeous slice of soul. Against reason, of course. In fact, archvists based in the record’s city of origin – Louisville, Kentucky – insist that the record doesn’t exist.
But exist it does, one of two vinyl discs credited to The Aristocrats on the prolific Rondo label. Most of members of The Aristocrats Organization have passed away, including “Don’t Go’s” fiery vocalist Linda Blakely, so answers to questions surrounding this incredible release rest with them. But Blakely’s ode to missed-chance, regret over lost opportunity still sounds resolute and striking. Backed with a driving instrumental by The Aristocrats Organzation backing band The Mind Liberators.
