Strictly paper: Posters, Flyers, Photos, and Ephemera of all kinds from the collection of Groove Merchant’s Cool Chris, and Egon of Rappcats and Now-Again.
December 11 (Saturday) 12-5PM
Rappcats: 5638 York Blvd, Los Angeles CA 90042
“Cool” Chris Veltri and Egon have been friends for nearly a quarter of a century, and Egon tells everyone he can how influential Veltri has been in not only his collecting of special objects from the past, but in the way that he approaches music and culture. Veltri is a unique thing, a stowaway from a time where there was different way of doing things, still here and relevant in the present, and always finding something great, thrilling and (though old) new.
Over the last few years, he and Egon exchanged hundreds of examples of the rarest of musical and cultural artifacts – the ephemeral posters, flyers, cards, newspapers and handbills that created the backbone of every 20th century scene we know of. And the duo have decided to open up their vaults at Rappcats on Saturday December 11th, for a special event, and sale.
On offer will be an impressive and inspired array of technicolor paper covering gig posters, handbills, flyers, promotional 8×10’s, unseen photos, record store display items, B-movie one sheets and lobby cards, Pins/Badges, Rare Punk Zines, Underground Newspapers, Counter Culture & Social Movement material.
Chris: “On the counter-culture side of things. We will be showcasing a wild mix of rare head shop posters, protest signage, drug related paper, LGTBQ print, fringe material, LSD doodles, outsider art & fine art gallery opening announcements, plus a long list of ambiguous shit I couldn’t even describe. In some cases these will be 1 of 1 artwork never to be available again. An unreal array of material suitable for any non discerning hip lowbrow wall piece.”
There will be something for everyone with prices ranging from $5 to the multiple thousands, perfectly timed for the holidays. One of a kind items that rarely (if ever) for sale will be IN house. Like all RAPPCATS functions, this will not to be missed. GUARANTEED HEAT.
