Freddie Gibbs, J.Rocc, Madlib, MF DOOM — October 16, 2012 | Comments (31)

DOOM & Madlib shared the same stage for the first time in years at London’s HMV Forum this weekend. Madlib, Freddie Gibbs & J Rocc are taking the Madlib Medicine Show through Europe. Egon reported from Germany yesterday. And below, we have photos from Fabrice Bourgelle in London (Thanks, Fabrice) and Mr. Mass in Paris (Thanks again, Mass).

  1. Is that Ras G?! Also I wonder who’s the guy which is on photo with madlib above on with madlib and doom? Saw him in Poland at madgibbs gig.

  3. The HMV London show was wack! Doom was great, but Gibbs and Rocc’s set completely killed the vibe. Missed out on Madlib because it was left to so late. Could you guys not notice 3/4 of the audience were blatantly bored with these 1 hour DJ sets and fake gangster morons? massive disappointment, sort it out!!

  4. I’m sorry but J Rocc spinning for an hour is a blessing.

  5. Couldn’t believe how bad Madlib was. Such a disappointment, there has to be an explanation. G Man is right im afraid, I was there and had to leave as Gibbs was awful

  6. ok gman, so you’re not interested in seeing madlib or j.rocc of the world famous beat junkies spin for an hour and you think gibbs is a fake gangster. i have to ask you, what the fuck are you doing there? let me guess, your friends who know more about music than you got you into mf doom like 5 years ago and now you think you know what is up. please kill yourself…

  7. oh and btw, that crowd looks like *every* other crowd photo from any other show. they look like they’re enjoying themselves while you’re in the back rolling your eyes.

  8. Sorry, I absolutely love Madlib, and have been waiting for years to see him. He played a very poor set last weekend, i cant understand it.

  9. Madlib – a great producer, a terrible DJ. Just because he buys lots of records and makes a ton of beats doesn’t mean he’s a good DJ. In fact, he’s crapola. Great producer though. Really great.

  10. You don’t feel me though

Comment by Feel me — October 16, 2012, 2:34 pm
  11. Yep, I’ll always be a fan, he makes crazy beats but Madlib Dj’s like he’s trying stuff out. Like no one else is listening.

  12. I’ll point out the elephant in the room, that photo of DOOM is fuckin ill, lot of people disappointed with Madlib’s Dj set, I wasn’t there so I wouldnt know but he is a sick producer, versatile, brings originality, high quality and high quantities of music

  13. Doom and Kutmah, were great. Madlib and Gibbs were shit. The acoustics at the Forum are shocking.

    Comment by DB — October 16, 2012, 4:38 pm
  14. i agree with @LATELEE. think of a live madlib dj set as an invitation vibe to one of his own private listening sessions. rare and sick

  15. Are the Limeys sure they weren’t just treated to a Doombot? Or was Victor in full effect?

  16. Ask yourself, what am I going to expect when I go and hear Madlib? You think he is going to play all his own ‘classics’? What is a classic to someone who makes so many beats? Is he going to play loads of beats by other people? No, he is Madlib he doesnt need to.

He can do what he wants, he is a genius

  19. Doom had like live instrumentation yeah? must have been fucking amazing.

And to all you haters. WTF are badmouthing the beat conducta for? On his own fucking website as well. Have some god damned respect for the man! go to one the hipster mp3 sharing pitchfork sites if you wanna cry about a “shitty” set. He’s a legend and he’s not on stage enough as it is.
Don’t fuck Madlib, cause one day Lord Quas will get ya!

  21. I have to say Mablibs set was piss poor.

Had been looking forward to seeing it for years and was sorely dissapointed.

Dont know what people are talking about with Gibbs being bad, he saved the show for me.

Also J Roc was good, Kutmah too, just Madlibs set was whack.

  23. I’m sure my two months nephew can do a better show than Badlib….oops Madlib !

At least we had J ROCC (thanks to you for saving the tour ….)

  24. I was there. Jehst was on way too early. DOOM bodied the shit out of his set. I saw him at the roundhouse with ghostface, and this set at the forum was way better.

In around these two fine mc’s the whole crowd stood bored shitless watching DJ noodling by cutmar and madlib who played NONSENSE. You had a venue full of trueblue hiphop heads, who did not turn up to see that shit.

madlib just stood there, shut off from the audience and played around with the effects knob on his mixer. I consider myself a true Madlib fan, right back from Lootpack, but this was a legend, playing an elementary JD set. He was rubbish, and I’m hugely disappointed to have to say this, because like I say, I’m a fan. I won’t be going to see him live again.

DOOM & Jehst were dope. Madlib was a massive disappointment. So much so, we left after 15 mins. The last act I saw in the forum was EPMD and they put a show on that was worth the ticket price.

    Verdict: Get some new medicine!

  25. J Rocc made the whole night worth. I’m glad I stayed to see him play… and that everyone left so there were loads of free space to dance… I wish it was longer though.

Still respect Madlib, a lot, but it was kind of a shit set.

    *great photos by the way!

  28. It was billed as a Medicine Show Live so people should have expected the full spectrum from Madlib. If they knew.
I had a ticket but couldn’t make the journey :/

    Comment by rondema — October 23, 2012, 5:33 am
  29. The things is, Madlib and J-Rocc don’t throw sets up like they’re tryna hype you out or anything like it’s a club show or whatever. They just play ill beats even if it doesn’t fit the setting. They play their music as if you’re listening to one of their albums, their albums really are just little DJ sets they had a substantial amount of time to polish. If you can’t get into the music and just stand there and listen, then what’re you doing listening to Madlib and J-Rocc anyways? That’s their entire style, I’ve seen both of them perform plenty of times and I’ve experienced this reaction a lot. They’re not here to play club DJ sets, they’re there to play music and mix, not play party music.

  31. to all the cocksuckers claiming the badkid played a ‘shitty set’
suck a dick, suck A DICK. don’t be whining because you can’t handle an artist doing some other shit. the nigga is a genius and the only reason you’re hating is because you are too simple minded to understand what the MEDICINE SHOW is. what where you expecting, some nice tunes you can nod your hip haircut to? you’re on a show of a real ass ARTIST ffs! your mothers must have never learned you all some fucking respect damn!!
